He gave his oath with all his heart,
With all his soul - and on his horse,
Gun on his shoulder, straight he sat,
Ready to march to free the Earth.
And where he passed the foe was crushed,...

The day is fading, yet I still stand
With a heavy heart and silent thought
And gaze upon the forest wall
That rises up around me naught.
Perhaps the partisans have lit
A bonfire in the evening air...

If I made noise with wings,
At the hour when the dawn flashes
And the Chulpan-star rises,
My home, my land,
I would fly to you,
As soon as the dawn sheds light....

We will gather around the table one May,
Our glasses with crimson wine will be filled,
There’ll be festively merry songs all the day,
Songs to drown out the glasses' silvery trill....

We have no wine here to regale us
So let our tears serve as wine!
Let’s pour. This drink we have in surplus,
Our hearts it’ll burn right through with brine.
Perhaps its bitterness will succour...
