Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German writer, philosopher, naturalist, and statesman.
Goethe created in different genres: poetry, drama, epic, autobiography, epistolary, etc. He was the main ideologist of the " Sturm und Drang " movement. Together with Schiller, Herder, and Wieland, he formed a movement in german literature which was called "Weimar Classicism". Goethe's novel Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship laid the foundation for the educational novel of the Enlightenment. Goethe's works, especially the tragedy Faust, are recognized as masterpieces of German and world literature.
The legacy of the philosopher and poet is preserved and studied in the Goethe and Schiller Archives in Weimar.
