Yurgis Kazimirovich Baltrushaitis was born on May 2, 1873 in Poantvardze, Russian Empire. Russian and Lithuanian symbolist poet and translator, diplomat. In 1899-1906 he participated in the activities of the Moscow Symbolists, more and more clearly taking a separate position in Symbolist poetry and literary life. This position corresponds to the images of the hermit and the lonely traveller, leading in his philosophical lyrics. He wrote about 300 poems in Russian. The first book of poems in Lithuanian was published only in 1942. A collection of poems in Lithuanian Poezija (Poetry; Boston, 1948) was published posthumously. The most complete collection of Lithuanian poetry "Poezija" (1967).
