Salavat Khayrullovich Khairullin was born February 29, 1900, in the village of Bolshiye Kaibitsy, Kaibitsy district, Kazan province, in a family of poor peasants. In 1902, Salavat's father moved the whole family to seek happiness in Perm. But soon his father dies and leaves the family of seven to fend for themselves. Salavat had to combine hard work with his studies at a madrassa at the age of seven. It was at this time he began to write poetry, to be interested in folk art.
In 1917, working in a printing house, Salavat became even more interested in literature, offering his poems for printing in various newspapers and magazines.
