Abu Abdullah. There is not much information about the scholar's life. He was born presumably in Khiva in 783. In some sources, al-Khwarizmi is called al-majusi, i.e. a magician, from which it is concluded that he descended from a lineage of Zoroastrian priests who later converted to Islam. His homeland was Khwarazm, which included present-day Uzbekistan and part of Turkmenistan. The last record of al-Khwarizmi dates back to 847 when caliph al-Wasik died. Al-Khwarizmi is mentioned among those who were present at his death. It is believed that he died in 850.
