Margarita Iosifovna Aliger was born on October 7 (September 24) 1915 in Odessa, Russian Empire. Russian Soviet poet and translator, journalist, war correspondent.
In her poetry, she created a heroic-romantic image of a contemporary - an enthusiast of the first five-year plans: "Year of birth" (1938), "Railroad" (1939) - according to literary scholars, from the point of view of modern perception, cleansed of ideological layers, this masterpiece is the pinnacle of Aliger's creativity. The collection "Stones and Herbs" (1940), the poem "Winter of this Year" (1938), praising the strength of the spirit of a mother who has lost a child, also gained fame. The poetic cycles "In Memory of the Brave" (1942), "Lyrics" (1943) are devoted to the exploits of a soldier at the front and a worker in the rear of the Great Patriotic War.
