Alexander Alexandrovich Bestuzhev was born on November 3, 1797, in St. Petersburg, Russian Empire. Russian writer-Byronist, critic, publicist of the Romantic era and Decembrist, descended from the Bestuzhev family.
In 1820 he was elected a member of the St. Petersburg Society of Lovers of Russian Literature. In 1823-1825 he, together with KF Ryleev, published the anthology "Polar Star". This almanack - a very remarkable literary phenomenon in its time - around the young, talented and beloved editors of the public united almost all the leading representatives of our literature of that time, including Pushkin. In "Polar Star" Bestuzhev appeared not only as a novelist but also as a literary critic.
