An Austrian Augustinian monk, writer-satirist, and famous preacher. He was born into the family of an innkeeper. He studied at the Jesuit college in Ingolstadt, then at the Benedictine University in Salzburg. In 1662 he entered the Augustinians, in 1668 he was ordained and sent as a preacher to Vienna, where he attracted the attention of Viennese society with his unusual way of preaching. He was soon appointed imperial preacher.
